    Hi everyone!

I’ve always been confused about how to interpret projected areas, some brands like Axis give the projected area in their specs besides the commonly used surface area, and for example the spreadsheet that this community has been building about foils specs and data (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/17xbTGEWSVeRhnYb_4vz_Gmby8UnrDys7Q1iB-6rC6F4/edit#gid=0) also mentions the projected area.

Any information about how to read this and interpret it is very welcome!!

    Mahalos!

Most brands actually use projected area as it more accurately reflects the lift of the wing. Most brands are either sq in or sq cm except gofoil, which is recommended rider weight in lbs I think.

The high aspect wings have made these measurements meaningless. 1400 high aspect is comparable to 1800 low aspect. The 10% difference comparing projected to total is meaningless compared to design and shape impacts on performance
